Hear backhoes, construction? No.. me neither…

“Spring is sprung, the grass is riz, I wonder where the…. government iz?” Here we go again. It’s called the Montague Riverview Manor Waiting game. The rules go like this:

  1. Make a promise.
  2. Get people excited and feeling cared for.
  3. Get others advocating for your promise. “No, no! It’s real, this time!”
  4. Make a gesture that is called “tender”.
  5. Hold breath for a few months.
  6. Give a good excuse or don’t even say anything.
  7. Repeat.

“Construction on the Riverview Manor and the Tyne Valley Manor will begin in late spring of this year once tenders are awarded after the closing date of March 9th..”

“In response to inquiries regarding timelines, we confirm that work will begin as early as possible in the Spring 2017 construction season.”

Um. So. Why are wewaiting? Again.

Sunday, May 6th, 2017 more ceiling tiles collapsed in the family room at the manor, and a bed needed to be shifted because of a leaking ceiling. It was a heavy rainy day, and a repeat of last year’s ceiling tiles falling.

I hate to write this but until the whole building collapses, I am starting to truly wonder if Montague will ever get a new Manor. I have shown up to this new blog for seniors to address the situation I predicted and I’m having writer’s block because I don’t know what to do anymore.

Once again, the Prince Edward Island government is taking the citizens of Montague for a ride. It’s like the worst relationship ever. Have you ever had a spouse or loved one promise that they will do some important task for you, over and over, only to either forget or not bother or give excuses for why they didn’t fulfill their promise? It feels like crap. You have a pit in your stomach and you close up. Trust gradually disappears as you stop listening, believing, and you let go.

Is that where we’re at? I have to ask you, the residents of Montague whose elders are stuffed into this decrepit building, do we just give up? You tell me.

And, just in case you have forgotten, here are a few screen shots of the pile of promises you have been handed. (I haven’t included the ones from 2009)

The snow is gone. Can we give some hope to those who are waiting, ever so patiently?

P.S. Here is another news headline from the Eastern Graphic to add to our collection: Just out May 10th, 2017… now what?

(Previous posts on this subject)

“Enough is Enough, Prince Edward Island”

“Shift funds, break ground…give hope.”

“Playing Russian Roulette with the Elderly in Prince Edward Island”

“Beyond Belief, Booze over Elders.”

“Why bother, they’re going to die.”

  1. I am very disappointed in the so slack attitude our government is taking with our seniors care. The foot will be on the other foot in a few years time….I would imagine there is more money to the government from a liquor store….REALLY.

  2. Apparently the renders are all in and construction will begin this summer…..
Hopefully. It is expected to take 18 months for the construction….

    1. It sounds good, but I’m afraid it’s not actually true. Not from what I’m hearing. Would love to hear something positive. I hope I’m wrong. Can you tell me more about the tenders?
